'SWEENEY' IS CUT ABOVE
At the Golden Globes without the strobes, it was a weepy wartime romance and murderous musical that grabbed the dimmed spotlight last night. The sweeping epic "Atonement" captured honors as best dramatic movie, and the butchery of "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street" landed the award for top musical or comedy film at the Globes, considered the best predictor of things to come at the Oscars in February.
But while the awards show is usually accompanied by as much glitz and glamour as the Oscars, the writers' strike wiped out any such revelry.

No stars showed for the event due to the strike, turning the event into something more like an episode of "Entertainment Tonight" or "Access Hollywood," as reporters read the winners' names and bantered about the results. More>>

Undernews Alert--The Barrett Report's redacted pages? Clinton skeptics were disappointed when special counsel David Barrett's report didn't prove rampant Clintonian abuse of the IRS. (See here, search for "Kahoutek"). But some 120 pages of the report had been redacted. Did John Kerry endorse Obama rather than Clinton because he's seen what's in them? Mark Goodman suggests as much.
