    Funeral services were held Thursday, January 24, 2008, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Uvalde with burial following at the Briscoe Ranch in Reagan Wells. Rev. Jerry Scott officiated. Pallbearers were John Carpenter, Benjamin Carpenter, Austin Carpenter, Chip Briscoe, D.B. Briscoe, and Leigh Briscoe.

    McCORMICK

    John F. McCormick, 89, of Rockport, Texas, passed away Saturday, January 12, 2008 in Portland, Texas. He was born January 19, 1918 in Kansas City, Kansas to Jerome William and Dora Maude McCormick. He was a switchman for Southwestern Bell. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of WWII. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Henrietta McCormick; and son, Jody McCormick. More>>

  • ( ) Spurs facing even tougher task in FA Cup

    Arsenal hosts Newcastle (Fox Sports World Canada, 10 a.m. ET), and defending champion Chelsea is at Wigan (Fox Sports World Canada, 12 noon ET) on Saturday, but Tottenham's game at Manchester United on Sunday (Fox Sports World Canada, 9 a.m. ET) looks to be the most appealing.

    Spurs have not beaten United since 2001 and have lost all but two of those 13 matches, but have broken an even longer winless streak already this week.

    Tottenham routed Arsenal 5-1 on Tuesday to reach next month's Carling Cup final and end a nine-year, 21-match unsuccessful streak against its north London rival.

    Spurs were beaten at Manchester United 1-0 in August's Premier League match, losing only to a long-range goal by Nani, suggesting it could trouble the record 11-time FA Cup winner. More>>
